Crayfish help in the development of bones. They have high levels of minerals such as: Calcium and Magnesium. Both are essential in the development of bones and hair growth.
The Omega-3 found in crayfish is great for kids and doesn't taste as horrible as the liquid capsules. Omega-3 also helps with motor skills in children and have a great impact on those suffering from depression.

'POLYPS' IT'S A GASTROLITH
While talking to Justin from Old Vasse Trout & Marron Farm. He showed me
these jars with these white looking stones found on the banks of his marron dams. Upon doing research I found that they are actually from the freshwater crayfish (they form in their heads).
These have an appearance of a hardened button mushroom and are called
'Gastroliths' in latin it breaks down to mean: Gastro = Stomach & Lith = Stone.
Personally I believe they should be named 'Calciliths' as they are quite literally little calcium deposits used to help create the crayfish exoskeleton during molting so that's what I'm going to call them.
The process is quite amazing, once the crayfish reaches its molting period the hormones that drive the process to extract calcium carbonate from the exoskeleton form the excess as these little calcium stones. Only freshwater crayfish form these 'Calciliths', unlike their salt water cousins who live in calcium rich saltwater which makes these unique to freshwater species of crays. After the crayfish has molted, the 'Calci-Liths'.. sorry I can't call them stomach stones or gastroliths, every species on the planet can have those and Calciliths are not used to break down unprocessed foods and are not swallowed rocks to assist with a lack of teeth.. So! The 'Calciliths are reabsorbed and used in the strengthening of the new exoskeleton to help it protect itself from predators. In T. H. Huxley's book; The Crayfish An Introduction to Zoology. 1st Edition published in 1880, he calls them 'Brainstones' as they are not found in the Cray's stomach. We can't of gone that far backwards in 140 years have we?
If you are lucky enough to have watched the molting process of a crayfish, you will notice how the crayfish will eat its old shell to absorb the very last nutrients it needs to strengthen its armor faster. The larger the crayfish, the more calcium carbonate is needed to strengthen the shell. This could be why crayfish show signs of aggression to others of the same and other species prior to the molting period as the hormones start, the cravings for calcium kicks in. Sounds similar to people and our milk cravings.
